In the words of one of my dear friends, I will soon have extreme survivor street cred to go with my business cred/philanthropic cred/cooking cred/jewelry makin' cred.... I am a 39 year old female entrepreneur living in Athens, GA, and a future breast cancer survivor.
Never say never…I finally get the meaning of that phrase. I said I would never shave my head. Today was the end of never. My hair was falling out in handfuls. By 9pm tonite, I ventured out of the beachhouse in search of a place that would have clippers – CVS to the rescue. I had to get rid of the constant feeling of hair falling on me. I have ultrasensitive skin. I can literally feel a single hair that falls on me. It drives me crazy. So imagine how I felt when I had dozens of hairs falling out of my head every few minutes. I was going MAD.
By 10:00p I was liberated from the fear of losing my hair, by the madness of the process, and by the hairstyle I had stuck myself with that I really didn’t care for after all. Thanks to my bro-in-law Wes, who is an expert at military cuts, for doing this for me.
And I am thrilled. I feel more alive now than ever. I can’t explain it….it only matters that I get it. I finally get it.
This is actually one of your most beautiful pictures! The real you really shows through here! I love love love it and how amazingly beautiful you are!!!!! <3
Love how it shows off the beauty. You will love the fact it is so much faster to get ready.

You look amazing!!!! How easy is that going to be!!!!!
It brought tears to my eyes, but I know you are still beautiful. Love you much.
no tears allowed. best thing i ever did. its very cool!
I know, it just made it real.
Amazing and inspiring.
You look amazing!!!!! Way to go brave lady!!!
I just took the dog trimmer to my head on Sunday. I love having that ‘fix your hair’ part of every day just wiped clean from my morning ritual… or any time of day for that matter.
Glad you’ve been liberated! Rinse off your head a lot to help it fall out, then it won’t drive you crazy falling on you all the time. I agree with others, you look beautiful!
You don’t understand how beautiful you are!!! This photo is one of my favorites. I think you attacked the problem in the right way by eliminating it all together!!! I might just join you to quit bothering with hair! You are amazing!
You’re an inspiration. You’re all set. Now go kick that cancer square in the ass!
Stephanie Sharp: Making Head Shaving Sexy Since June 9, 2011.
…and what she doesn’t tell you is that she sat there smiling and laughing – throwing around a few colorful words just for fun – in front of 12 people who watched is awe and felt stronger just because we were in her presence! I have no doubt you are going to be just fine Stephanie!
Lori,
Thanks for the resounding affirmation of bravery. However, the real bravery wasn’t in the shaving of my head…it was in letting Wes Sharp to do it! Just kidding – actually it was an honor to have the marine of the decade do the honors.
Wow! So beautiful and inspiring!
Thinking about you and praying for you brave girl.
