One Year Progression of Mastectomy Progress

This is made for all the women facing mastectomy and reconstruction. I was terrified of what the healing would be like and couldn’t find any staged photos showing progress. I hope this helps assuage fears about what it will be like.

Keep in mind that I opted for a Simple Radical Mastectomy on the affected side only at first, but on January 31, 2012 I decided to go ahead with a prophylactic mastectomy on the unaffected side just for peace of mind. So the final picture is One year post op of the original mastectomy on the right side and three months post op on the other side. I have not had nipple tattooing yet. I will wait a few months for this and I expect most of the scarring on the left side to be much lighter and less visible by then. I will post new photos at that point.

This progression shows the following shots from left to right:

  1. One Week Post Op Simple Radical Mastectomy Right Side
  2. One Month Post Op Simple Radical Mastectomy Right Side
  3. Three Month Post Op Simple Radical Mastectomy Right Side
  4. One Year Post Op Post Op Simple Radical Mastectomy Right Side and Three Month Post Op Prophylactic Mastectomy Left side
